SOUND AS TERRITORY
Founded in 2018, Sonic Territories brings artistic practices into dialogue with places, communities and the wider environments that shape how we listen. Its programmes are hosted throughout Vienna, with a long-standing focus on urban peripheries and decentralised venues.
The platform spans immersive audiovisual performance, site-specific installation, DIY electronics, sonic fiction, exploratory music and critical listening formats. Feminist and decolonial perspectives inform its collaborative work with local and international artists.
Since its first edition, Sonic Territories has presented more than 200 emerging artists and developed workshops and laboratories that extend sonic and performative practice beyond conventional stages.
Listening is not passive. It is a way of locating ourselves, noticing relations and making space for other forms of knowledge.
